Celebrity watching for engagement ring inspiration

Celebrity culture has, over the past few decades, established itself as a major barometer by which fashion trends are influenced and measured. The popular media strives to feed the public’s seemingly insatiable hunger for gossip and news about those in the limelight and accordingly, celebrity influences are reflected in engagement ring trends.

One of the most influential engagement diamond rings in history was that chosen by Lady Diana Spencer in the early 1980s prior to her becoming the Princess of Wales upon her consequent marriage to Prince Charles. Her large oval shaped sapphire surrounded by diamonds sparked an enduring trend. It was to be reinvigorated when the ring reappeared in 2010 when her son, Prince William, presented it to Catherine Middleton when they became engaged.

Similarly, royalty continued to make its mark on engagement ring styles when Sarah Ferguson became betrothed to Prince Andrew in the later 1980s with a ruby and diamond cluster ring. The Spice Girls’ Victoria Adams and football legend and style icon, David Beckham, have become referred to as celebrity royalty. Her marquise cut diamond engagement ring spawned thousands of imitations and the style became a popular choice for both engagements and general gift giving.

At Quality Diamonds, we are diamond jewellers of substance and have thousands of styles on offer, from classically elegant solitaire engagement rings to designs based on those of the rich and famous. We also make bespoke engagement rings using loose diamonds, should you wish to emulate your favourite celebrity and add your own twist to your engagement ring.
